Guidance from the U.K. Department of Trade and Industry as well as a compliance proposal developed by the European Trade Association EICTA emphasizes the importance of materials declarations, i.e. supplier disclosure regarding the material content of supplied products.
From the 1st July 2006 any new electronic or electrical equipment sold in the EC must not contain these hazardous substances in excess of the permitted levels indicated above. However, the directive does allow provision for some specific exclusion such as lead in glass and ceramics etc. limitations of scope that are included in WEEE were accidentally left out of RoHS when the regulations were separated. Equipment used for military and medical purposes and control instrumentation, are also exempt.
